Acidophilus is a supplement found in the body necessary for digestion, assimilation and in protecting the health of the intestinal tract. The overuse of antibiotics, oral contraceptives, excessive sugar consumption, aspirin antihistamines, cortisone, prednisone, coffee and stress can all contribute to an imbalance in the bacterial flora of the gastrointestinal tract.
