Adrenal exhaustion has reached epidemic proportions in this country. No other gland is affected by stress to the degree that this gland will respond to stressful conditions. When you are under stress, the body will produce adrenaline and norepinephrine to accelerate body mechanisms such as heart rate, respiration, and perspiration. This is known as a "survival" response and often termed the "fight or flight" response. To support adrenal function, a good diet, plenty of rest, and proper supplementation is essential. Vitamins B complex and C are especially important in maintaining adrenal integrity. Foods containing zinc, such as brown rice, grains, eggs, and magnesium rich foods as almonds, avocado, dark green leafy vegetables, carrots, and salmon are a necessity to adrenal health. Certain herbs such as licorice, and ginseng work specifically to stimulate the adrenal glands to regulate the body's energy.
