High potency standardized willow bark for prostanoid modification
Willow bark contains unique salicylate glycosides and other, non-salicylate components such as flavonoids. Historically, willow bark was a favored remedy for conditions now understood to involve imbalances in prostanoid production by cyclocoxygenase (COX) enzymes. Double-blind trials confirm its value in maintaining normal function of knee, hip, and spinal joints. Modern research has found willow bark to be a gentle herb with minimal adverse effects; willow bark does not cause gastro-intestinal damage and has minimal effects on platelet aggregation. Quality control, as demonstrated by appropriate levels of salicin being present, is important to insure a good quality, effective extract.
